"Social Meets Duplicate" Game

Twenty social bridge players gave duplicate bridge a try at our second annual “Social Meets Duplicate” event. While mastering the mechanics of bidding and trick taking, they made new friends, learned new strategies, laughed, had fun, and some earned master points. Several became members and we hope to see all of them again soon at the bridge table. We also want to thank our duplicate players who invited them and played with us on Sunday. See more pictures in our Photo Gallery.

SLBC Helps Fight Alzheimer's Disease

The LONGEST DAY EVENT was an enormous success. Not only did our team raise awareness of the devastating disease of Alzheimers, but it also raised nearly $14,000 for the treatment of and research into this disease. As of the end of June, the St. Louis Bridge Center ranked 12th in the nation among the participating ACBL teams, and our Team Captain Linda Powers ranked 6th among individual participants.

THANK YOU to everyone whose generosity made this possible!!! You donated money, asked friends to support our effort, sponsored tables, attended our three charity games (over 114 tables), played in the marathon June 21st game (68 tables), made in kind contributions, cooked hot dogs, baked, decorated and supported this effort in every way.

You showed that not only are we a group of people who like to play duplicate bridge, but we are also a powerful community willing to work together in support of a worthy cause. All of this is what makes the St. Louis Bridge Center such a highly regarded club. THANK YOU!

Larry Cohen Seminar was a Huge Success!

Larry Cohen’s first appearance at St. Louis Bridge Center was a huge success. Over 125 players attended one or more of his seminars on “Slam Bidding”, “Avoiding Finesses”, and “Defense- Helping Partners/Signals.”

Larry is a professional bridge player, writer, and worldwide lecturer for all levels of bridge players. A 26-time National Champion who is among the top 10 living most influential ACBL players, he is also someone who loves to teach the game. This was evident as he covered the seminar topics with hand records, anecdotes, humor and play of the hand analysis.

Before leaving, he donated three books to the Bridge Center’s library: To Bid Or Not To Bid, Following The Law, and Bidding Challenge. Anyone interested in receiving his free newsletter, or information about upcoming lectures, bridge events and cruises, can signup at www.larryco.com.

We look forward to his next visit to St. Louis.

St. Louis Bridge Center is #15 in ACBL Top Clubs!

The ACBL just released their listing of the Top 50 Clubs for 2013. Thanks to the efforts of our members, St. Louis Bridge Center was ranked #15 with 8,942.5 tables. This is a tremendous achievement for us in our first full year. This achievement is due entirely to our dedicated and supportive members. Thank you for supporting SLBC! Free Learning Opportunity - Post-Game Analysis

We are currently offering a Post-Game Analysis session after every Thursday morning game. This is a FREE benefit to SLBC members. One of our experienced players (“pro”) will be available after the game to spend about 15-30 minutes reviewing the hands that were played in the session. The attendees can ask questions about hands that were troublesome for them and/or the pro may have a couple of examples that he/she noted during the game. This is a tremendous opportunity to help players of all levels improve their game while the hands are still fresh in their minds. It is also another benefit of playing at SLBC.

This tool allows you to login and enter games where you are in need of a partner. You can also login to see a list of all players currently looking for partners. To access the system all you need is your ACBL number.

Swing Players Needed

Please consider signing up to be a swing player. You can pick a day of the week, or certain days where you agree to come to a game and be a swing player if needed. If you play that day, you play for FREE. If you aren’t needed, you receive a FREE game pass for another day. So you are helping the Center AND earning a free game regardless of whether you play that day or not. The swing player program is very important to the success of the Center as we have a desire to always guarantee a partner for players that just show up. Please consider signing up for this program.
